Late night television… so many things popping on screen, can’t write fast enough. Just finished a late night viewing of WaterWorld. But now oddly enough I just want to make juice and talk on party lines all night long while making stuffed salmon in a GT Xpress101. My gosh, she’s making stuffed soup?? Is that a real food? This lady is crazy she’s just putting anything in that machine and calling it food. Her “economical healthy tip” is instead of making a whole cake just fill one side of the machine with cake batter and make a single serving piece of cake. The only problem with that is now you’re throwing away 90% of your cake batter. My guilty pleasure is that my brother got me a sandwich maker for Christmas – which has similar physical characteristics so I may be attempting a unique recipe of my own.
And seriously when did it become cool for all the “hot singles” to sit at home in their skimpy underwear and talk on the phone?
2008 for me has turned out to be the year of getting in shape. In addition to ninja training, (graduated to a 2nd degree yellow belt this weekend). I’ve somehow picked up running. That roughly started by working a few Aid Stations in some Ultra Marathons. Nice community, good people, addicting energy. So I started out by just going out for a few casual runs on Liberty Mountain. Then signed up to run a Half Marathon in March. Then this past Friday, went for my first run on that mountain I’ll be racing on. Beautiful mountain. (you can read all about my training at the13mileman.com. But incredible that we live so close to that but the majority of us take it for granted or neglect it. One of the nice things about the community of those racers is the outdoor spirit. They get out there and run to enjoy the outdoors. Maybe thats why I like it, spending time outdoors in nature, getting my camp on. Anyway, just thought it was a nice mountain and setting.
Just finished watching Black Sky – Winning the X Prize. And it amazes me that in 3 years a private company (Scaled Composites) on private funds can build a rocket that can fly to space. The same with automobiles (Tesla Motors) – creating an entirely electric vehicle that actually looks decent. Amazing what people can do when they put their minds to it. And amazing that we live in a country where we can do such things.
Yesterday I stopped at Sheetz to pick up some anti-freeze for the auto and decided to pick up a gallon of windshield washer/de-icer fluid as well. What I didn’t expect to happen was to dispense the fluid and have it immediately freeze on my windshield totally obscuring my view. Therefore I give sheetz de-icer fluid two thumbs down.
Sitting watching the A-Team and preparing for Hellgate. (A 100K Race – one of 6 in The Beast Series by Eco-X) I am working an Aid Station (actually 3) for this race – not running. I plan on running in Terrapin however. But Hellgate is a 100K race that starts at Midnight and is run on mountain trails from The Natural Bridge Station to Fincastle VA. 70 some odd miles of Trail running. Something crazy, yet appealing about that. The fascination started with Grindstone – a 100 mile race through the woods. I am no where near close to being able to run a 100 mile race, nor the half marathon I plan to try in March. I just think there is something neat about it. Running an aid station consists of sitting on top of a cold mountain waiting for runners to show up and then giving the hot soup, and drinks. The forecast is for 20 degrees and windy. So this should definitely be interesting.
Day 3 of A Christmas Story… its odd how every year seems to fly by faster than the year before, this has definitely been one of those years, the holidays and seasons really snuck up on me and because of that I just really haven’t been feeling it this year. The fourth of July was meh, Halloween just another day, Thanksgiving came and went just as quickly with no monumental celebration or fanfare. Not that I was really expecting anything but sometimes its just nice to sit back and enjoy a holiday, don’t really feel like I’ve had the chance to do that this year. Now Christmas is fast approaching, and I need to get lights up, a tree purchased and trimmed, gifts boughten and wrapped. Of course the weather is not cooperating, as we all know I am a fan of the winter cold so long as there is snow – otherwise the cold is pointless. Currently my ice maker is on the fritz so no chance of me helping out mother nature. Maybe snow would help the Christmas feeling, maybe not. I am not talking about the over all spiritual meaning of the season, I am just talking General Christmas Spirit – just doesn’t seem to be there this year. Tomorrow’s mission: A Random Act of Kindness – as mandated by the BBC – Dojo Rules. (does that still make it random – and an act of kindness if its mandated)? We shall see what the outcome is.
According to the Internet Archive the last time I posted was oddly November 27, 2007, so roughly one year later, what has changed? Well I am now a first degree yellow belt in Muy Thai, I am planning on running a half marathon in March so apparently for now I’ve hitched a ride on the fitness train. Aside from that, not much else is new.
I’ve got some free time right? Well most of the free time is Hank’s, so he may be the one updating this. We are fast approaching Christmas, and still have tons of stuff to get accomplished. But throwing up a little test here so we can work out the kinks. Stay tuned as I update this.
